Mind Money Balance's Favorite Things!

Support Mind Money Balance

Curating this list of favorites was born out of an email I received from a newsletter subscriber who shared that they enjoyed my work, and also, weren’t the ideal audience to hire me.

Supporting Lindsay Bryan-Podvin, the founder of Mind Money Balance, helps support the creation of the free podcast, blogs, and social media content. Purchasing products or services that you’d already planned on buying via an affiliate link provides me with a small commission at no additional cost to you. I’ve created this page as a way for readers, listeners, and followers to support my work even if they don’t plan on working with me.

Tools to Start and Grow Your Private Practice

Whether you are in the start-up phase or the growth phase of private practice, there are certain tools you can use to make your life easier. I’ve got them broken down into two sections, one specifically for the website part of your private practice and one for the practice management side of your business.

Therapist Website Tools

Hold Space Creative Monica is the brilliant founder, designer, and former art therapist behind Hold Space Creative. I love her pre-designed Squarespace website templates for therapists and coaches. In fact, the website you’re scrolling through was built using her “Andrea” template. Later, my website was refreshed by her when I hired her for a template reframe and she personalized my Squarespace template in 5 days. So many other templates for therapists are boring, full of stock images, and don’t actually speak to clients. Monica’s websites are built to be beautiful AND hardworking. And? There are no monthly fees like other services that charge between $60-90 per month! Once you pay for a website, you own it!

TherapieSEO Meet clients where they're searching the most: Google. Attract your ideal clients with search engine optimization (SEO). Kristi and her team helped me create keyword-rich blog posts and podcasts that grew my organic traffic by over 3,400% in one year. What does that mean practically? It means I don’t have to sweat if I want to take time off of work (or even just social media) because ideal clients will find me when they need to find me.

Best Therapists Directory Best Therapists vets therapists, so therapy-seekers can focus on fit, not quality. They host an out-of-network mental health benefits checker—so no matter which insurance plan your dream client has, you can get your full fee—making Best Therapists the best choice for private pay therapists. On top of that, therapists are one of a handful of other providers on each results page, not thousands (unlike the other directories).

KeyWords Everywhere Keywords Everywhere is a browser add-on that helps me find keywords for my blogs and podcasts. Keywords are the words that a potential website visitor will type into google or bing that drive them to my website. This tool helps me see how many times a certain keyword or term is searched each month, see search trends, and offer suggestions on other words to use.

Private Practice Management

Tools and services I use to help me manage my private practice are listed below. Even though many of us in private practice want to DIY things, the business stuff becomes so much more manageable with appropriate management help on hand. From Electronic Health Record software to email marketing service providers, payroll service, and bookkeeping and accounting software, you’ll find everything I use and recommend here.

Simple Practice Simple Practice is an electronic health record for therapists, psychiatrists, speech and language therapists, and coaches. I love how I can easily integrate my booking link, bill clients with ease, and safely send and receive documents via a headache-free portal. As a special BONUS, you’ll get a $100 credit after your first month with them if you use the affiliate link.

Flodesk Flodesk is the email marketing service provider I use to send my 2,500+ email subscribers weekly emails. I love their clean and simple templates, and how I can easily add my brand colors and logo to messages. Get 50% off of your subscription when you use my affiliate link!

Gusto Gusto is the payroll service I use to pay myself and my contractors. With Gusto, my local, state, and federal payroll tax filing happens automatically. Depending on what stage of private practice growth you are in, Gusto also can support you and your employees' 401(k) contributions, healthcare benefits, and 529 plans. Using the affiliate link gives you a $100 gift card after you run your first payroll.

Money Workshops

Mind Money Balance Workshops Did you know I have great pre-recorded workshops on goal-setting, therapists & retirement, and taking your practice from on the side to full time? You can peruse the options, and purchase a workshop that addresses your private practice needs, too!

Simple Practice Learning I partnered with Simple Practice’s education arm to bring therapists two different courses on money. In Money Mindset in Your Private Practice, I’ll cover what money mindset is, how it shows up in private practice and ways to be accessible to your clients outside of sliding your scale! In the CE-eligible course, Mental Health and Money, you’ll learn how to talk about money with your clients. We’ll cover different risk factors that impact a client’s relationship with money and mental health, financial capability, and how to use your existing skills to help your clients with money.

Personal Finance Help

The world of personal finance can be overwhelming. And when it comes to personal finance help? Knowing who to trust and where to start can be just as daunting. While I love self-learning, I also believe in the value of trusting when it’s time to get a little extra help. Below are some of my favorite resources for investing in retirement, and for help with student loans.

Invested Development This investing course by Amanda Holden is great for beginners and intermediate investors! While I was doing most things she recommended, I loved how she broke everything down into understandable bite-sized chunks. With lots of puns and metaphors throughout the course, I was able to stay focused (a tough task for an online course). Amanda teaches you the history of investing, why it’s so important to invest, how to open up retirement accounts, and walks you through buying your first index fund, too.

Loan Sense Understanding student loans can feel so overwhelming. And if you have other financial goals, like saving up for a house, wedding, or car, getting your student loan balance under control is crucial. Loan Sense is NOT a debt consolidation company, instead, they act as student loan concierges. Learning about what financial goals you have, and helping you decide how to create a plan to pay them off while meeting other financial goals.

Transform Your Money Mindset In this hour-long training session, originally presented at the Mental Health & Wealth Summit, I teach viewers what determines their money mindset and how to manage it, how to boost financial resilience and the importance of learning more about your financial archetype, for only $20! Proceeds are split between myself and the Summit host, Melanie Lockert.

Save Money On Household Items & Clothes

Saving money on items you shop for weekly or monthly is an important part of creating a spending plan that works for you. I’ve rounded up some savings on ordinary household items that you can check out below.
Rent The Runway I LOVE using Rent The Runway for clothing items beyond fancy occasions like weddings and galas. They have so many great options for work clothes, accessories, and it’s a great way to save money on pricey pieces by renting them, and looking up-to-date (hello, WFH life) when I have to hop on a fancy Zoom call, present at a conference, or attend a networking event. Get 40% off of your first month here!

ThredUp Another sustainable and affordable option that helps me answer the question of “what the hell do I wear is ThredUp, an online consignment store. ThredUp has helped me do this in a financially- and eco-friendly manner. This works best when you know what brands and sizes you like, my favorite hack to ensure a good purchase is to filter by “new with tags.” Haven’t shopped ThredUp before? Use this link to get $10 off your first purchase!

GoogleFi Cell phone service for $20 a month does exist. I’ve been a GoogleFi stan for a long time and love their “Flexible” plan that starts at $20 a month, and your monthly cap is $60 per month. In other words?  You only pay for data used and once you hit 6GB of data, you can keep using as much data as you want but your bill is capped at $60. They have two other plans, too, but the most you’ll pay is $70 per month. Make the switch and get $20 off of your first month when you use my link.

Figo Pet Insurance When my sweet pup Birdie was diagnosed with Addison’s disease in the summer of 2021, I was so thankful for Figo Pet Insurance. Instead of stressing about how much her [FIVE] E.R. visits and corresponding medicine would cost, I could focus on getting her the best veterinary care possible and snuggling with her. Figo reimbursed me within days of submitting my vet receipts. I could do it easily from the app too. Best $25 monthly expense that I have. I cannot recommend getting pet insurance enough if you don’t have it already.

Buy Me A Coffee

Maybe you aren’t in need of any of the items above, but still want to make a contribution to my work. You can buy me a coffee here, by giving any dollar amount to my business’ PayPal
