24: Sachiko Cohen says Goodbye to Psychology Today

Sachiko set her private practice fees by scanning the Psychology Today listings to see what other people were charging. Spoiler alert: it burnt her out and didn't work! And when she raised her fee? No pushback from potential clients.

Sachiko Cohen did what a lot of therapists do when they set their fees. She turned to a popular therapist directory, Psychology Today, and picked a price by looking at what others were charging! Eventually, she started to hit burnout, so she niched down to serving Japanese clients and raised her fees in accordance with being a specialist. Tune into the podcast episode to learn what she loves about owning a business, how she learned to not feel threatened by others in her niche, and how she prices her services now, based on the outcome her clients instead of the much-touted “worth.”

Sachiko Cohen was a therapist for 18 years before making the leap to become a life coach. Now, she specializes in helping therapists make the move from therapy to coaching. Sachiko helps therapists develop a money-making identity as a coach when they start their coaching businesses.
